Terms of use

Effective September 13, 2026. These terms are between you and Illuminant Inc. ("we") for the Schoolhouse app for iPhone and iPad.

1. The license

Schoolhouse is licensed to you, not sold, under Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the "Standard EULA"), which is incorporated here. Where these terms say more than the Standard EULA, these terms apply between you and us; where they conflict, the Standard EULA governs your license from Apple's point of view. You may use the app on any device you own or control that is signed into your Apple Account, and on the devices of members of your Apple family group through Family Sharing.

2. Free and Pro

The free tier includes the planner for one student and the features listed on the pricing page. Schoolhouse Pro is available as an auto-renewing monthly subscription, an auto-renewing yearly subscription with a 7-day free trial for eligible accounts, and a one-time lifetime purchase. Prices are shown in the app in your local currency and may change; a change to a subscription price applies only from the next renewal and only after Apple notifies you.

Subscriptions are charged to your Apple Account and renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You manage or cancel them in iOS Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions. Cancelling keeps Pro until the end of the period already paid for. Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you purchase a subscription. Refunds are governed by Apple's policies and requested from Apple.

We never lock, hide, or delete records because a subscription ends or was never started. Reading, editing, exporting, backing up, and deleting your records never require Pro.

3. Your records

Everything you enter is yours. We claim no rights in it, we do not receive it, and we make no copy of it (see the privacy policy). You are responsible for keeping your own backups; the app gives you a one-file backup for that purpose, and iCloud sync is provided by Apple under Apple's terms.

4. Records, reports, and the law

Schoolhouse produces attendance, hours, and report documents from what you enter, and its state pages summarize regulations as we understood them on the date shown. They are a convenience, not legal advice, and not a guarantee that any document will be accepted by a school district, evaluator, umbrella school, court, or program. Requirements change and local practice varies. You are responsible for confirming what your district or state requires, for the accuracy of what you enter, and for filing on time.

5. Acceptable use

Use the app lawfully and for its purpose. Do not reverse engineer it beyond what the law allows, resell it, or use it to build a competing service by copying its content. Curriculum names you enter are yours to enter; we include no publisher content.

6. Availability and changes

We may update the app, add or remove features, and change these terms. Material changes to the terms or to the Pro features included in a subscription will be announced in the app or on this site before they take effect. If a change is unacceptable to you, cancel your subscription; the lifetime purchase keeps every Pro feature that exists at the time of purchase for as long as the app is available on the App Store and supported by iOS.

7. Warranty and liability

The app is provided "as is" to the extent permitted by law. To the fullest extent permitted by the law of your jurisdiction, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for loss of data, arising from your use of the app, and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for the app in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and nothing here affects consumer rights that apply where you live.

8. Apple

Apple is not a party to these terms and has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms as they concern your license and may enforce them against you.

9. Governing law and contact

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York and the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where the law of your place of residence must apply. Questions: support@schoolhouse.example.com.
